Home for Good Foster Spotlight: Meet Patty Frerichs, Foster of the Month

What Is Fostering with Home for Good?

Fostering is a vital part of Home for Good Dog Rescue’s mission. Our foster families provide temporary homes where dogs can feel safe, loved, and begin to heal while they wait for adoption. Every foster makes a difference—and that difference is what we celebrate in each Home for Good foster spotlight.

This Month’s Home for Good Foster Spotlight: Patty Frerichs

Patty Frerichs never expected to become a long-term foster. After Hurricane Helene, she agreed to help “just one dog.” But that one dog changed everything. Since then, Patty has welcomed 14 foster dogs into her home through Home for Good Dog Rescue—and she hasn’t looked back.

Her two dogs, Chase and Belle—both adopted from Home for Good—now serve as her sidekicks and helpers, greeting every new foster pup with wagging tails and gentle guidance. “They show every foster the ropes,” Patty says. “It’s amazing to watch how quickly the dogs adjust.”

Fostering has become a family tradition. Patty’s nieces and nephews love meeting each new arrival, and her 3-year-old nephew even asks, “Did you get a new dog?” the moment he walks through the door.

“It’s brought so much joy—and yes, fur!—into our home,” Patty shares. “It’s taught all of us, especially the kids, about love, patience, and the power of second chances. Fostering is an adventure. It’s meaningful, and it’s completely worth it.”

We are proud to feature Patty in this Home for Good foster spotlight and deeply grateful for the heart and dedication she brings to our mission. If you’ve been thinking about fostering, let Patty’s story be the inspiration to take the leap—you could be the next hero in a dog’s journey home.
