Solving the Shelter Capacity Crisis with Affordable Pet Care in Aiken

Solving the Shelter Capacity Crisis with Affordable Pet Care in Aiken

Every year, too many dogs and cats end up in shelters simply because their families cannot afford basic care or because unplanned litters overwhelm the system. At Home for Good Dog Rescue, we believe the best way to help these animals is to prevent the problem before it starts.

A Clinic Built Around Compassion and Affordability

This summer, we opened Central Savannah River Area Veterinary Services at our Almost Home Wellness Center in Aiken, South Carolina. The clinic is full-service and designed to make care accessible for every family. Our goal is simple: no pet should have to suffer or enter a shelter because of cost.

High-Quality Care at a Fraction of the Cost

Led by Dr. Reid Barrett, our medical director, the clinic provides wellness exams, vaccinations, and treatment for common illnesses. Our spay and neuter surgeries  are about half the price of most veterinary offices.

In just a few weeks, our team has already performed hundreds of surgeries, preventing unwanted litters and giving local shelters the chance to focus on animals already in their care.

Fighting the Shelter Crisis at Its Roots

This clinic is more than a place for veterinary care—it’s a new chapter in our mission. By keeping pets healthy and preventing unplanned litters, we help families stay together and reduce the number of animals entering shelters.

Hope and Impact for the Community

With this clinic, Home for Good Dog Rescue is turning prevention into action. Every wellness visit, every vaccine, and every surgery helps stop suffering before it begins. Together with our community, we are building a future where fewer pets face shelter doors—and more pets stay right where they belong: home, safe, and loved.
