Clear the Shelters Month: How HFG Is Celebrating

What Is Clear the Shelters?

Clear the Shelters kicks off every August. It’s one of the biggest pet adoption pushes of the year. NBCUniversal launched the nationwide campaign back in 2015. A local adoption drive in North Texas found homes for hundreds of pets in a single weekend, and the idea stuck. Since then, it’s grown into a month-long effort. Hundreds of shelters and rescues across the country now take part. The mission is simple: get more animals out of shelters and into homes, faster.

How Home for Good Dog Rescue Is Different

Home for Good Dog Rescue plays a specific role in this effort. We have no shelter, no kennels, and no cages in New Jersey. Instead, every dog who comes into our care goes straight into a foster home or to their adoptive families. There’s no facility to wait in. There’s no run to sit in once a dog arrives here. As a result, most of them learn what living in a house actually feels like for the first time.

DOGust: A Birthday Party With a Purpose

This year, we’re marking the occasion with two celebrations of our own. First up: DOGust. It’s our annual party for every shelter and rescue dog who never got a real birthday. DOGust lands on Saturday, August 1st, right here in Berkeley Heights. It’s part pawty, part adoption event. Anyone who adopts that day goes home with a free 5 lb bag of food. Full details and terms are on our events page.

Clear the Shelters Day Adoption Extravaganza

On August 15th, we’re doing it again. This time it’s our Clear the Shelters Day Adoption Extravaganza. It comes with the same free food bag. It’s the same easy way to bring a dog home. Keep an eye on our events page for full details.

Home for Good Dog Rescue makes all final adoption decisions at our discretion, based on what we determine is best for each dog. Adoption terms and conditions are subject to change without notice.
